The Low Ponytail Is Back

The ponytail has always been in style, no matter the time of year or decade. The classic ponytail has always been an option, but in every decade there are variations. So far on the runway this year, long ponytails have been very prominent, usually positioned low and with the hair straightened to emphasize the length of the pony.

This does not mean, however, that this look will only work for long hair. There are medium-length haired variations as well so those of you with medium to long hair can try this look, although to get the true runway version, the longer your hair is the better. But this modern ponytail does not limit itself to simply keeping to the classic look and keeping it low, long and straight.

The Low Ponytail Is Back

Many designers used slight variations on this look to complement their particular fashions. Instead of using a simple hair tie, both Elie Saab and Michael Kors used a longer, looser hair band to match their fashions. Elie Saab also tucked some of the locks behind the ears, separating the look from that used by Michael Kors.

Etro used a black ribbon instead of a hair tie which added flair and elegance to the hairstyle. For another variation, Akris framed the face with a round silhouette by pulling several strands from the pony forward. All of these variations look great and are chic and there is still room for more creativity to make a completely distinct version of this classic style.
